NEW LONDON, Conn. – The seventh-ranked Amherst College men's hockey team scored in each period and received 32 saves from Nathan Corey '13 during its 3-2 win over Connecticut College Saturday afternoon.

The Camels (4-9-1, 2-6-0 NESCAC) battled back to tie the game at 1-1 in the second period and 2-2 in the third, but Amherst (11-2-1, 8-1-0 NESCAC) needed less than 30 seconds to regain its lead on each occasion. The hosts held a 34-24 advantage in shots on goal, but Corey came up big and improved to 4-1-0 on the season.

Andrew Margolin made 11 saves and allowed two goals in the first 36:03, but it was Marcus Calvanico who picked up the loss for the Camels. Calvanico stopped 10 shots in 23:09, but he was in net when Dylan Trumble '13 scored the game winner for Amherst.

Erik Hansen '14 put Amherst on the board 17:05 into the opening period with his third goal of the season. Eddie Effinger '12 was credited with his fifth assist of the year, with Andrew Kurlandski '14 adding his sixth helper.

Mike Sinsigalli tied the game 12:36 into the second period, but Jamie Hawkrigg '13 needed only 25 seconds to hand the lead back over to the Jeffs with an unassisted goal. Amherst had another scoring opportunity in the period when J.J. McGregor was called for boarding, but the Jeffs would carry their 2-1 lead into the final period.

Sean Murray scored an unassisted goal of his own to tie the game at 2-2 9:04 into the third frame, but Amherst again wasted no time retaliating. This time it was Trumble who put the Jeffs ahead, as he finished off a pass from first-year Mike Cashman at 9:28.

Trumble's team-leading seventh goal of the season stood up as the game winner, as Corey came up with nine saves in the third to preserve the win. Amherst committed only one penalty in the game and the Camels were whistled for three, but neither team was able to score on the power play.

The Lord Jeffs increased their unbeaten streak against the Camels to five games (3-0-2). With half of its conference schedule out of the way, Amherst sits alone atop the NESCAC standings with a slim lead over Williams College.

The Jeffs will resume their nine-game road trip when they take on Hamilton College next Friday.
