Jeffs Wrap up Perfect Weekend with 3-1 Win at Bates

LEWISTON, ME – The Amherst College volleyball team wrapped up a perfect weekend with a 3-1 win over Bates College Saturday afternoon to improve its record to 5-1 (2-0 NESCAC) on the season. Bates falls to 4-2 overall and 0-2 in conference play. 

Bates team hung tough with conference rival Amherst, but the Jeffs picked up the 3-1 (22-25, 31-29, 25-19, 25-13) win. The Bobcats won the first set and battled to 30-29 in the second set before Lord Jeffs claimed it. 

Junior Katherine Jordan (Los Altos Hills, CA) had 48 assists for Amherst. First-year Emily Waterhouse (Sherman Oaks, CA) added 12 kills and four blocks for the Lord Jeffs, while sophomore Katherine Kanoff (Pacific Palisades, CA) had a team-high 14 kills with two service aces. Junior middle hitter Laura Hyman (Glencoe, IL) added 11 kills, while junior tri-captain Rachel Yorke (Los Angeles, CA) paced the back row with 11 digs.

Sophomore Grace Haessler paced the Bates offense with 55 assists, while senior Liz Leberman had a team-high 17 kills to go with seven digs for the Bobcats. Senior Avery Masters had 13 kills while sophomore Olivia Schow contributed 11 kills, three aces and four blocks. First-year Nicole Russell led the back row defense with 19 digs.

The Lord Jeffs return to action Tuesday, Sept. 22 when they host Johnson & Wales University in their 2009 home opener. Tuesday's match will feature a live webcast courtesy of JeffCast.
