Amherst Suffers 3-1 Loss at Archrival Williams

WILLIAMSTOWN, MA - The Amherst College volleyball team suffered a 3-1 road loss this evening to NESCAC and Little Three archrival Williams College. After taking the first set 25-23, Amherst dropped the next three frames 25-15, 25-15 and 25-20 to fall to 8-3 (2-1 NESCAC) on the year.

Amherst's attack was led once again by sophomore hitters Cristy Meier (San Anselmo, CA) and Katherine Kanoff (Pacific Palisades, CA). Meier registered a team-high 15 kills, while Kanoff had a trio of digs to go along with 13 kills.

Junior middle-hitter Laura Hyman (Glencoe, IL) had a great night at the net with six kills and four blocks, while classmate and tri-captain Jackie Berkley (Fullerton, CA) added three kills and two blocks.

Junior setter Katherine Jordan (Los Altos Hills, CA) dished out 38 assists against the Ephs, while junior tri-captain Rachel Yorke (Los Angeles, CA) kept alive a team-high 16 digs to pace the defense. Junior Erin Camp (Santa Monica, CA) chipped in on defense with 13 digs as well.

After the loss, Amherst will need a strong showing against conference rivals Hamilton and Middlebury tomorrow at Williams to remain above .500 in the NESCAC. Last weekend, Amherst lost to Middlebury 3-1 at home in their only meeting of the season.
