WESTFIELD, Mass. – Tournament MVP Brian Baskauskas (Palo Alto, CA) poured in a career-high 30 points to lead Amherst College to a 90-59 victory in the Pioneer Valley Men's Hoop Classic on Saturday evening, Dec. 6.

The Lord Jeffs, ranked 10th nationally in the d3hoops.com poll, remained perfect with a 6-0 record. The Owls are 5-2. Westfield State's Dave Jaehnig made history vs. the Division III juggernaut as the 6-4 senior guard from Quincy scored his 1,000th career point.

With many family and friends in attendance, Jaehnig surpassed the magic milestone 3:05 into the game when he nailed a fall away 3-point basket from the top of the key.

Jaehnig was Westfield's only player in double figures with 19 points and he now has 1,016 career points. He is the 17th Westfield State men's basketball player to score 1,000th points.

Led by Jaehnig, who scored Westfield's first 10 points, the Owls stayed close in the first half. The score was tied at 20-all midway thru the stanza. The Lord Jeff led 35-30 with 3:29 remaining when they went on a blitzkrieg, outscoring Westfield 14-1 to take a commanding 48-31 halftime lead.

Amherst shot 50 percent from the field, including 55 percent in the first half.

Amherst's only other player in double figures was all-tournament team selection Steven Wheeler (Bloomington, MN) with 16 points. Thirteen players scored for the Lord Jeffs, who were 9-for-21 from 3-point range.

Lord Jeff rookie Taylor Barrise (Allendale, NJ) was named to the All-Tournament Team as well after playing well for Amherst. The Jeffs will play at Emmanuel on Tuesday evening at 7 p.m. before breaking for vacation
