Jeffs Suffer 6-0 Loss to Wesleyan

AMHERST, MA - The Amherst College field hockey team suffered a 6-0 loss to visiting NESCAC and Little Three rival Wesleyan University on Saturday. The Jeffs fell to 5-7 (2-5 NESCAC) on the season, while the Cardinals improved to 9-3 (4-3 NESCAC).

Wesleyan opened the scoring eight minutes into play when sophomore Adrienne Shea (Andover, MA) found the back of the cage off a dish from junior Cortney Tetrault (Hatfield, MA). The Cardinals converted again at the 18:22-mark as junior Molly Adams (Wilbraham, MA) took a pass from senior Liz Dee (Bernardsville, NJ) and knocked it home. Despite the efforts of Amherst sophomore net-minder Kathleen Boucher (Washington, DC), who posted five first-half saves, Wesleyan tallied two more goals in the frame to make the margin 4-0 heading into the break.

The Cardinals continued to pressure in the second stanza, as Tetrault and sophomore Amanda Nickels (Wilder, VT) notched goals to push the score to 6-0 and clinch the victory.

Boucher finished with 10 saves in a losing effort, while Wesleyan counterpart Caitlin Kelly (Midlothian, VA) made three stops in the victory.

Amherst returns to action Wednesday at 4 p.m. at NESCAC rival Connecticut College.
