Jeffs Fall to No. 11 Hobart, 5-2

AMHERST, MA - Visiting 11th-ranked Hobart College jumped out to a four-goal lead on the strength of a hat track by junior William Brame (West Hartford, CT) en route to a 5-2 non-league men's hockey victory at Amherst College on Tuesday night. Junior Steve Nelson (Wayzata, MN) and senior Bill Jenkins (Edina, MN) each found the back of the net for Amherst (9-5-2), while senior co-captain Beau Kretzman (Edina, MN) dished out a pair of assists.

Hobart (11-2-4) scored a pair of goals in each of the first and second periods for a commanding 4-0 edge. Brame found the back of the net twice in the opening frame, thanks in part to a pair of assists by senior Craig Levey (Mississauga, Ontario). Junior Brian Keane (Sherborn, MA) then opened the scoring in the second off feeds from Edward Poirier (Farmington, CT) and Jonathan Swift (Andover, MA) before Brame notched his third goal of the game off a pass from Colby McVey (Chicago, IL), who dished out a pair of assists on the night.

Amherst cracked the scoring column on Nelson's fourth goal of the year with 20 seconds remaining in the second period, and Jenkins made it a 4-2 game 5:17 into the final stanza. Kretzman assisted on both Amherst tallies.

The Jeffs went with an open net for a 19-second stretch in the final minute of regulation, and Hobart's Stephen Mitacek (Wantagh, NY) took advantage with a cheapie in the waning moments.

Sophomore Josh Fillman (Charlestown, MA) spent 59:41 in goal for the Jeffs and finished with 30 saves. Hobart rookie Dimitri Papaevagelou (Windham, NH) went the distance with 36 saves.

Amherst returns to action Friday at 7 p.m. at ECAC East foe St. Anselm.
