Jeffs Blanked at Bowdoin, 5-0

BRUNSWICK, ME - The Amherst College field hockey team fell victim to a five-goal first-half barrage en route to a lopsided 5-0 loss at Bowdoin College on Saturday. The Jeffs dropped to 4-3 overall and 2-2 in conference play, while Bowdoin improved to 4-2 and 2-1.

The Polar Bears took control of the contest early as Marissa O'Neil found the cage at the 31:21-mark. Taryn King scored a goal off an O'Neil assist with just over 21 minutes remaining in the opening half, and O'Neil tallied her second goal of the contest less than two minutes later to push the lead to 3-0. King and O'Neil both assisted on a Colleen McDonald score at the 7:50-mark and Sarah Horn capped the scoring for Bowdoin with just under four minutes in the first half.

Amherst senior K.C. Cosentino (Greenwich, CT) and first-year Kathleen Boucher (Washington, DC) split time in goal, nabbing three and two saves, respectively. Kate Leonard and Corey Bergen shared the shutout for the Polar Bears as Leonard posted seven saves.

Amherst returns to action Thursday at 7 p.m. at non-conference foe Keene State College.
