Jeffs Bow at Skidmore in Overtime, 4-3

SARATOGA SPRINGS, NY - The Amherst College men's hockey team fell at ECAC East rival Skidmore College 4-3 in overtime on Saturday. Skidmore senior Jeff Martin netted the game-winner in the extra session after dishing out the game-tying assist to force overtime. Amherst sophomores A.J. Greco (Williamsville, NY) and Steve Nelson (Wayzata, MN) each had a goal and an assist for the Jeffs.

Amherst jumped out to a 2-0 first-period lead as senior Mike Kreger (Glenview, IL) and junior Roy Mabrey (Needham, MA) found junior Jon Hill (Averill Park, NY) for his third score of the year, and Nelson and junior co-captain Beau Kretzman (Edina, MN) fed Greco for his fifth goal. Thoroughbred junior Nate Smith cut the lead to one at the 8:06-mark in the first period, but Nelson regained Amherst's two-goal edge in the second session off assists from Greco and first-year defender Trevor Calamel (Lockport, NY).

Skidmore junior Sean Holt netted a power-play goal at the 15:14-mark in the second period to bring the lead back to one, and classmate Tripp Eagan deflected in a shot from Martin with three minutes remaining in regulation to force the extra frame. Martin netted his game-winning tally unassisted at the 3:08-mark in overtime.
