LEWISTON, ME - The Amherst College field hockey team improved to 4-0 (2-0 NESCAC) with a 2-1 victory at NESCAC rival Bates College on Saturday, as senior co-captain Christine Ryan scored the game-winner with 2:20 left in regulation. Lauren Sozio added her second goal of the year for the Jeffs.
Junior Lauren Anderson fed Sozio to put the Jeffs ahead 1-0 at the 18:48 mark in the first half, but Bates responded with an unassisted goal from senior Lori Jessup about eight minutes into the second half to even the score. The game appeared to be headed for overtime, but Ryan sealed the win for Amherst with her first goal of the season.
NESCAC Player of the Week and ECAC Goalie of the Week, junior K.C. Cosentino, had five saves in net for Amherst, while sophomore keeper Sarah Judice had two for Bates, who falls to 1-3 (0-2 NESCAC).
