AMHERST, MA - The Amherst College volleyball team continued to roll on Wednesday, earning its seventh straight victory and improving to 7-1 with a 3-0 win over visiting non-league foe Keene State College. Game scores were 30-13, 30-11 and 30-15.
The Jeffs excelled on defense, getting six blocks from senior co-captain Lauren Wong (San Francisco, CA), four from rookie Ashley Pestotnik (Arvada, CO) and three each from first-year Kristin Quinn (Los Angeles, CA) and sophomore Sara Bruggeman (Boulder, CO), while holding Keene St. to a -.046 hitting percentage. Sophomore Kate Raddock (Stamford, CT) added a match-high 14 digs.
All-NESCAC junior setter Annie Hoeksma (Los Angeles, CA) dished out 35 assists and smacked seven aces to pace the offense. Quinn was the main beneficiary with a match-high 10 kills. Wong added eight putaways, while junior Nicole Davidson (Los Angeles, CA) chipped in with eight kills and four aces.
Sophomore middle hitter Shelly Ellis (Hampton, NH) led Keen State, which fell to 3-2, with four kills, two aces, two blocks and 12 digs. First-year setter Corissa Widger (McGraw, NY) handed out 14 assists.
Amherst opens conference play this Friday and Saturday with a NESCAC quad match at Williams College.
