Jeffs Improve to 2-1 with 3-1 at Smith

NORTHAMPTON, MA - Led by 17 kills and seven digs from junior Nicole Davidson (Los Angeles, CA), 13 kills and six blocks from first-year Kristin Quinn (Los Angeles, CA) and a 48-assist outing from junior Annie Hoeksma (Los Angeles, CA), the Amherst Volleyball team improved to 2-1 with a 3-1 non-league win at Smith College on Thursday.

Senior co-captain Lauren Wong (San Francisco, CA) and first-year Megan Ingraham (Pleasant Hill, CA) added some offensive firepower of their own with 10 and six kills, respectively. Wong also contributed on the defensive side with five blocks, while sophomore Kate Raddock (Stamford, CT) added 17 digs and first-year Mikela Yarawamai (Kamuela, HI) tallied eight digs.

Sophomore Lauren Perry led Smith with 10 kills and 24 assists in defeat, the Pioneer's first of the season. Sophomore Kate Sorensen added 19 kills and 28 digs, senior Ilara Torchinova had 12 kills and junior Mimi Zhang contributed 20 digs.

Amherst returns to action Saturday at 6 p.m. against Massachusetts College in the opening round of the WNEC Invitational.
