No. 16 Jeffs Drop Overtime Loss at No. 14 Williams, 4-3

WILLIAMSTOWN, MA - The 16th-ranked Amherst College field hockey team fell in overtime at 14th-ranked NESCAC and Little Three archrival Williams College on Saturday, 4-3. Williams junior Tara Boyd found the cage just under four minutes into the extra period to give the host Ephs the win. Amherst junior Erin Leydon (Bridgton, ME) scored twice for the Jeffs and sophomore Katherine Skrivan (St. Louis, MO) added her fifth goal of the year.

Williams jumped on top early as Boyd found classmate Crista Petrelli for the score just 2:13 into regulation. Skrivan answered for the Jeffs at the 28:57 mark, off a feed from first-year Rachel Carr-Harris (Pleasantville, NY), and junior Lauren Anderson (Telluride, CO) found Leydon near the cage to give Amherst a 2-1 lead going into the half as she punched home a rebounded shot near the cage. Just over 20 minutes into the second half, Williams first-year Rebecca Allen fed senior Tori Scott to even the score at 2-2, and Scott scored again with 7:33 remaining in regulation off an assist from Boyd to give the Ephs the lead. Leydon sent the game into overtime, off an assist from senior co-captain Christine Ryan (Summit, NJ), by beating the Williams keeper off a penalty corner with just under four minutes left. Boyd sealed the win for Williams off a crossing pass from junior Claire Whipple 3:34 into overtime.

Amherst junior K.C. Cosentino (Greenwich, CT) had 15 saves in the loss, and juniors Wendy Stone and Jen Steinberg split time in net for Williams, collecting two saves each.

The Jeffs, who entered the game tied for second in NESCAC, fell to 9-4 (5-3 NESCAC), while Williams improved to 9-2 (6-2 NESCAC) with the win.

Amherst hosts NESCAC rival Trinity College Saturday at 11 a.m. in its final regular season matchup.
