No. 16 Jeffs Defeat Conn. College, 4-2

AMHERST, MA - The 16th-ranked Amherst College field hockey team defeated visiting NESCAC rival Connecticut College 4-2 on Wednesday, led by two goals and an assist from junior Tyler Kelly (Bronxville, NY). Sophomore Katherine Skrivan (St. Louis, MO) and junior Erin Leydon (Brigdon, ME) added goals, and senior co-captain Christine Ryan (Summit, NJ) had two assists in the win.

Skrivan opened the scoring just over 10 minutes into the game as Ryan fed her off a penalty corner and she sent a rocket past the goalkeeper for the early lead. First-year Sage Shanley (Westerly, RI) answered, unassisted, for the visiting Camels to even the score, but Leydon tipped in her second goal of the year on a long crossing pass from Kelly to give Amherst a 2-1 lead at the break.
Kelly took over in the second half, scoring her first goal on a long shot from the right side of the circle at the 24:27 mark, and slamming home her second on what looked like a replay of the Jeffs' opening score. Ryan tapped the ball to Kelly and she sent a powerful shot into the cage for a 4-1 lead. Conn. College rallied for a late score as junior Hillary Rader (Hingham, MA) beat the keeper with 5:52 remaining in regulation, but the Camels could not overcome the deficit.

Amherst junior K.C. Cosentino (Greenwich, CT) had five saves as the Jeffs improve to 9-3 (5-2 NESCAC) and sit in a three-way tie for second place in the conference with Bowdoin and Williams. Sophomore Ashley Kenerson (Wenham, MA) had four saves for Conn. College, which falls to 5-7 (1-6 NESCAC).

Amherst returns to action Saturday at 11 a.m. at NESCAC and Little Three archrival Williams College.
