Field Hockey

No. 17 Jeffs Win at No. 19 Colby, 3-2

WATERVILLE, ME - Senior co-captain Christine Ryan (Summit, NJ) scored the game winner with 5:40 remaining in regulation to lift the 17th-ranked Amherst College field hockey team to a 3-2 victory at 19th ranked NESCAC rival Colby College on Saturday. The Jeffs improved to 8-2 (4-1 NESCAC) as junior Tyler Kelly (Bronxville, NY) scored twice in the first half and sophomore Katherine Skrivan (St. Louis, MO) had nine saves in her first collegiate start in goal.

Kelly netted her first goal of the season, off an assist from Ryan, with 28:16 remaining in the first half. However, Colby junior Wendy Bonner evened the score at the 7:33 mark. Kelly answered, finding the cage with just over a minute left in the first half off a feed from senior Lauren Sozio (Dedham, MA), but Bonner responded again with an unassisted tally with 16:11 remaining in the second half. Ryan put the game away for Amherst off senior co-captain Molly Jacobs' (Providence, RI) first career assist.

First-year Molly Rice had nine saves in the loss for Colby, which fell to 7-3 (3-3 NESCAC).

Amherst hosts NESCAC and Little Three rival Wesleyan University Saturday at 11 a.m.
