Jeffs Fall to Hamilton, 8-2

AMHERST, MA - After salvaging a 3-3 tie at Trinity College on Saturday, the Amherst College men's hockey team fell to visiting NESCAC foe Hamilton College, 8-2, Tuesday night at Orr Rink. Junior forward Jeff Corey (Niagara Falls, ONT) paced the visitors with a goal and three assists, while senior forward Brett Farson (Greenwich, CT) notched a goal and an assist to lead the Jeffs.

The Continentals drew first blood 11:04 into the contest when Corey slid a pass across the crease to classmate Tom Ditzer (Fulton, NY) for the easy tap-in goal, giving the visitors a 1-0 advantage to end the first. Hamilton blew the game wide-open with five-second period tallies. Sophomore forward Elliott Altberg (Thornhill, ONT) ignited the barrage, skating across the slot and firing a lazer into the top corner. The Continentals connected with four more goals to take a 6-0 lead into the third.

Rookie goalie Gabe Tash's (Evanston, IL) bid for a shutout was spoiled less than a minute into the final session when Farson tickled the twine on a breakaway. Senior Justin Jagher (Framingham, MA) and first-year Sean Lynch (Essex Junction, VT) combined to turn aside 21 shots for the Jeffs, while Tash finished with 24 saves.

With the loss, Amherst falls out of a tie with Hamilton for sixth place in the conference standings, dropping to 3-7-2 overall and 3-3-1 in NESCAC play. Meanwhile, the Continentals - who received three votes in Monday's USCHO.com Division III Men's Poll - have now won three of their last four games, improving to 7-2-1 and 4-2-1.

Amherst returns to action Friday at 7 p.m. at ECAC East opponent Salem State.
