Jeffs Snap Three-Game Losing Skid with 7-4 NESCAC Win at Wesleyan

MIDDLETOWN, CT - Junior forward Mike Kreger (Glenview, IL) broke a 2-2 tie with his fourth goal of the season - Amherst's third during a run of seven unanswered goals after falling behind 2-0 - to lead the Lord Jeff men's hockey team to a 7-4 NESCAC win at Wesleyan University on Friday night. Amherst snapped a three-game losing skid, improved to 3-6-1 overall and 3-2 in conference play and moved into sixth place in the NESCAC standings with the win.

Chris Gateman gave Wesleyan (2-5-2/2-3 NESCAC) an early 2-0 cushion with a pair of first-period scoring strikes - the first on a power play and the second short-handed. Amherst sophomore Scott Aldrich (Wilmington, MA) responded with the first of two goals on the evening, igniting a 7-0 Lord Jeff flurry from which Wesleyan would never recover. Sophomore forward Beau Kretzman (Edina, MN), who missed the last two games with an injury, also scored twice during the run, while seniors Brett Farson (Greenwich, CT), Justin Pitrack (Wilmette, IL) and junior John McNicholas (Lake Forest, IL) each added a pair of assists.

Amherst starting goaltender Jaffrie Perrotti (Winthrop, MA) left with an injury in the second period, but senior Justin Jagher (Framingham, MA) and rookie Sean Lynch (Essex Junction, VT) stopped 14 of 16 shots over the next 33 minutes to seal the win.

Amherst returns to action Saturday at 7 p.m. at conference rival Trinity College.
