Jeffs Drop Overtime Heartbreaker at Wesleyan, 2-1

MIDDLETOWN, CT - The Amherst College field hockey team dropped a heartbreaker in overtime at NESCAC and Little Three rival Wesleyan University, 2-1, on Saturday. Cardinal senior forward Melissa Courtemanche (Hatfield, MA) notched the game-winner 13:35 into the extra session. With the loss, the Jeffs fall to 4-7 overall and 1-5 in conference play while Wesleyan improves to 8-4 and 4-4. 

Amherst drew first blood 31:47 into the contest when senior forward Jenna Obelsky (Stoughton, MA) took a feed from classmate midfielder Katherine Ryan (Westborough, MA) and tallied her second goal of the season. The Cardinals countered midway through the second stanza when senior forward Jenn Wasserman (Branford, CT) scored unassisted, evening the score at 1-1. 

Courtemanche then propelled the Cardinals to the 2-1 overtime victory. Jeff rookie goaltender Anne McMullin (St. Louis, MO) finished with 11 saves while Wesleyan senior netminder Lindsay Wasserman (Branford, CT) recorded four. 

Amherst returns to action Wednesday at 4 p.m. against visiting NESCAC foe Connecticut College.
