Jeffs Skate Past Host Skidmore, 6-2

AMHERST, MA - The Amherst men's hockey team skated past host Skidmore 6-2 Friday night. First-year sensation Beau Kretzman led the Jeffs with two goals and two assists. Senior forwards Greg Carr and Bob Miele each chipped in with a goal and an assist. With the victory, Amherst improves to 4-7-4 overall and 4-3-2 in conference play.

Kretzman tallied his first goal 16:09 into the first period, firing a shot past Skidmore goaltender Jon Olson to knot the score 1-1 to end the opening stanza. Skidmore would take the lead again 7:00 into the second period when Brian Neary shot the puck past junior goalie Justin Jagher on the power play. First-year forward Scott Aldrich quickly countered for the Jeffs to tie the score again. Amherst first-year forward Jonathan Hill would score the game-winner with less than two minutes left in the second period, taking a cross-ice feed from Kretzman and ripping it into the back of the net.

The Jeffs added three third period goals to seal the victory. Carr tallied his only goal 9:08 into the final period firing a shot past a screened Olson. Kretzman scored his team-leading 15th goal of the season short-handed off a feed from first-year defender Brad Craigen while Miele rounded out the scoring for Amherst.

The Jeffs return to action Saturday at 4 p.m. at Mass. College.
