NEW LONDON, CT - The Amherst field hockey team capped a dominating three-win week with a 4-0 victory at NESCAC rival Connecticut College on Saturday morning. The four Amherst goals came from four different players as the Jeffs connected twice in each half to improve to 4-1 overall and 2-1 in NESCAC play.
Amherst junior midfielder Katherine Ryan (Westborough, MA) broke the ice with her first goal of the season with 24:30 left in the first half and helped push the lead to 2-0, assisting on junior Abby Ouimet's (Hatfield, MA) team-leading fifth goal 12:10 before the break.
The second half began much the same way when senior forward Marcy Busch (Scarsdale, NY) redirected a feed from classmate Mairin Brady (Bethesda, MD) past Conn. senior goaltender Anna Trafton (Topsham, ME) for a 3-0 Amherst lead. Senior forward Robin Ackerman (Princeton, NJ) then sealed the win with her second goal of the season, assisted by junior forward Jenna Obelsky (Stoughton, MA).
Amherst senior goaltender Beth Sensing (Hockessin, DE) stopped five of Conn.'s 10 shots en route to her second shutout of the season and the team's third in as many games. Trafton posted eight saves for the host Camels, who fell to 2-3 overall and 1-2 in the NESCAC.
The Jeffs return to action Thursday at non-league foe Mt. Holyoke College at 4:30 p.m.
