AMHERST, MA - Abby Ouimet (Hatfield, MA) scored her team-leading 11th goal in the first half as the Amherst College field hockey team knocked off Little Three rival Wesleyan University on Saturday, 1-0. The win gives Amherst (11-3, 6-3 league) a No. 4 seed in the NESCAC conference tournament, which begins on Sunday where the Jeffs play No. 5-seeded Colby at Bowdoin College at 3:30.
The game's lone goal came with just under 27 minutes remaining in the first half. After a skirmish in front, the ball popped out to Ouimet who blasted it in the left corner of the net.
While Amherst dominated much of the first half, play evened out in the second, culminating in Wesleyan's best chance, a break away resulting in a shot wide of the net. Amherst's senior tri-captain Mairin Brady (Chevy Chase, MD) performed spectacularly at midfield, while goalie Beth Sensing (Hockessin, DE) made four saves in net. Wesleyan's junior goalie Lindsay Wasserman (Branford, CT) made seven saves as the Cardinals fall to 7-7 overall and 4-5 in NESCAC play.
