WILLIAMSTOWN, MA - The eighth-ranked Amherst College field hockey team fell to 9-3 overall and 4-3 in NESCAC play with a 3-0 upset loss at unranked conference-rival Williams College on Saturday.
The host Ephs took a 1-0 lead when junior Stephanie Noering cracked the scoring column off an assist from Tori Scott with 1:43 remaining before the break. Scott then widened the gap to 2-0 just 6:33 into the second half - assisted by Moonjoo Han - before Molly Jennings capped the scoring with a successful penalty stroke with 21:15 remaining.
Amherst senior goaltender Beth Sensing (Hockessin, DE) finished with 13 saves for Amherst.
With the win, Williams (6-4/4-3) moved into a three-way tie with Amherst and Bowdoin College for third place in the NESCAC standings, behind Middlebury (7-1) and Colby (5-2) Colleges. Amherst returns to action Wednesday at 4 p.m. at conference rival Tufts University.
