CAMBRIDGE, MA Ð The Amherst volleyball team lost its first match of the season, but picked up three wins along the way at the M.I.T. Invitational Tournament on Friday and Saturday, Sept. 22-23.
The Firedogs started off on the right track with a pair of wins over Wheaton (15-8, 15-11, 15-10) and NESCAC rival Tufts (15-11, 9-15, 15-9, 15-6) on Friday, advancing their overall record to 8-0.
On Saturday, Amherst went the full five games against Wesleyan, but ran out of steam for their first loss of the season, falling 12-15, 13-15, 15-4, 15-7, 12-15. They rebounded, however, with a 15-13, 19-17, 15-6 win over Western Connecticut State, to wrap up the weekend.
Amherst, now 9-1 overall, returns to action on Tuesday against visiting NESCAC foe Trinity at 7 p.m. at LeFrak Fieldhouse.
