LEWISTON, ME - Senior midfielder Gretchen Bowe (Hampstead, NH) scored her third goal of the season to lead the 10th ranked Amherst College field hockey team to a 1-0 win at NESCAC rival Bates on Saturday at Bertram Field. Amherst improved to 3-0 (2-0 NESCAC) with the win.
After a scoreless first half, Bowe pounced on a rebound off a Jeffs' penalty corner with 9:22 on the clock as Amherst narrowly escaped with the 1-0 victory. Bates (2-0/0-1 NESCAC) threatened down the stretch but failed to find the back of the net.
Amherst goalie Beth Sensing (Hockessin, DE) racked up five saves for her first shutout of the season. Bates goalkeeper Peggy Ficks added 10 saves in defeat.
The Jeffs return to action Tuesday nigh at 7:00 at non-league foe Springfield.
