Jeffs Drub M.I.T. 5-1 in Cambridge

CAMBRIDGE, MA. Ð First year forward Allison Aldrich (Cornwall, VT) scored a pair of second half goals while co-captains Mairin Brady (Bethesda, MD) and Gretchen Bowe (Hampstead, NH) each added a goal and an assist as the Amherst College field hockey team improved to 2-0 with a 5-1 drubbing at M.I.T. on Tuesday.

Brady opened the scoring in the first half with a goal off a corner pass from Bowe at the 24:33 mark. Junior midfielder Marcy Bush (Scarsdale, NY) then fed sophomore forward Abigail Ouimet (Hatfield, MA) on another scoring strike as the Jeffs took a 2-0 lead into the locker room at halftime.

Aldrich scored twice during a three-minute span in the second half, the second of which came on a nifty touch pass from Brady. Following an M.I.T. goal, Bowe put the game out of reach with a penalty stroke in the final minutes to set the final score at 5-1

Junior goalie Beth Sensing (Hockessin, DE) held M.I.T. scoreless in the first half, before giving way to classmate Catherine Deibel (Potomac, MD), who had one save and allowed a goal after the break. Amherst outshot M.I.T. 37-2 overall, and 25-2 in the second half.

The Jeffs return to action this Saturday at Noon at NESCAC rival Bates College.
