MEDFORD, Massachusetts -- Amherst defeated Tufts in four games for a third place finish in the NESCAC Championship. Seeded fourth entering the tournament, the Firedogs easily disposed of Colby in three games before falling to top-seeded Williams in four. Amherst upset second-seeded Tufts for the bronze, while No. 3 Middlebury upended Williams 18-16 in the final game for the NESCAC crown.
Three players earned All-NESCAC recognition, as chosen by the coaches of all eleven teams. Juniors Kristen Edgar (Colorado Springs, CO) and Erin Greenspun (Santa Monica, CA) earned second-team honors, while senior co-captain Liz Delsman (Brooklyn, NY) earned honorable mention. Greenspun was also named to the All-Tournament Team.
The Firedogs finished the 1997 regular season with a 24-12 record.
