Field Hockey

Amherst Beats Wesleyan 1-0

With an almost routine save, Jess Rich '99 secured the 1996 Little III Title for Amherst field hockey. The Jeffs were in the second set of strokes with Wesleyan after a scoreless 30-minutes of sudden death before the 2-1 margin proved enough to end this five-day long game.

The field was still soggy, but Amherst and Wesleyan were finally able to finish off the game they had started last rainy Saturday. The two teams had slogged through 70 minutes of play before officials suspended the Homecoming game to be completed today in sudden death.

Amherst picked up where they had left off on Saturday, driving over 20 shots at the cage. But still none would pass the goal line, and forced the match into a set of penalty strokes. Tied at 3-3, Jen Corso '99 and Marnie Huffman-Green '99 scored in the second set to finally conclude the contest.
