Matt Goldsmith

A pivotal member of Amherst's 2007 national championship team,Goldsmith begins his third season as part of the men's basketballcoaching staff. A four-year letterwinner, he played an instrumentalrole in helping the Jeffs capture a pair of conference titles(2005, 2006), while also helping the team to a national runner-upfinish in 2008. Continuing his career after graduation, he playedprofessionally in Germany for TV Werne 03 during the 2008-09season, before returning to his native New Jersey to serve as anAssistant to Alumni & Development at the Delbarton School. Apolitical science major, he was also an assistant men's varsitybasketball coach at Delbarton before returning to his almamater.

In his first year coaching with the Jeffs, Goldsmith helpedguide Amherst to a 30-2 overall record en route to its secondnational championship in program history. Last year, his secondwith the program, the Jeffs reached their fifth Final Fourappearance as they finished the season 27-4, while becoming thefirst team in NESCAC history to win three-straight conferencetitles.

In addition to his success with the Jeffs, Goldsmith spent timeas a Volunteer Assistant Coach for USA Basketball during the pasttwo summers. In June 2013, he assisted the Men's 2013 FIBA WorldChampion USA Under-19 National Team while learning from topDivision I men's basketball coaches; Billy Donovan, Shaka Smart andTony Bennett. This past summer he helped with individual workoutsduring practice, among other duties assigned, while volunteeringwith the 2014 Gold Medal winning Men's National Team. Whilevolunteering with the team, Goldsmith learned valuable lessons fromcoaches Mike Krzyzewski, Jim Boeheim, Tom Thibodeau and MontyWilliams.
