Jamie Carlson

Entering his first season as an assistant coach for the Mammoths track and field programs for the 2021-22 season, Jamie Carlson will take the lead on pole vault and the long sprints.

An alumnus of Bridgewater State University, Carlson competed for the Bears from 2016–19 after transferring from Saint Joseph’s College of Maine. Specializing in the pole vault, he won the 2018 and 2019 outdoor conference titles in the event while setting school records both indoors and outdoors. Carlson also competed in the multi events, posting All-Division III New England finishes in the decathlon three times from 2017–19.

After graduating with a degree in physical education from Bridgewater State, Carlson spent the next year coaching the Bears' pole vaulters and javelin throwers. As a coach, he led athletes to break both the men’s and women’s pole vault records at the school and claim a men’s team title at the 2020 Massachusetts State College Athletic Conference Championship.

After COVID-19, Carlson returned home to coach his high school Mount Mansfield Union in the spring of 2021 and helped the team claim its first girls state championship since 2004.

Outside of track and field, Carlson spends his remaining time coaching two of his other passions. During the summer he aspires to become a PGA golf professional. He spent the last two summers back in his home state at Vermont National Country Club and hopes to pass his player ability test in 2022. In the winters, Carlson has been instructing ski lessons since 2014 at both Smugglers' Notch and Stowe Mountain Resorts.
