Bethany Dumas

Hired in the summer of 2016, Bethany Dumas is entering her second season as an assistant coach for the Amherst College women's cross country and track & field programs.

Dumas brings a wealth of experience to her position at Amherst having most recently served as the assistant track & field coach at Smith College in Northampton, Mass. since 2014. During her time with the Pioneers, Dumas was responsible for recruiting, budgeting, travel itineraries, management of student-athletes on and off the track, equipment expenses, developing a yearly periodization plan, designing and planning practices, facilitating practices, fundraising, and successfully organizing, hosting and directing home meets.

Prior to her stint at Smith, Dumas was an assistant track & field coach at Cony High School in Augusta, Maine from 2012-2014. Previously, she served as an assistant track coach for the City of Augusta Recreation Department from 2005-2010. 

A standout track & field athlete while at the University of Southern Maine where she earned a bachelor's degree in Recreation and Leisure Studies in 2012, Dumas was an NCAA All-American after earning fifth place in the javelin in 2012, and placing eighth in the pole vault in 2011. Dumas completed her master's degree in Science in Exercise and Sport Studies in May of 2016, and holds certification in track & field technical coaching, coaching principles, American Red Cross First Aid/CPR/AED, and a certificate in coaching athletics.
