Amherst women's basketball head coach G.P. Gromacki is in his 17th year at the helm of the program, and has built Amherst College into the standard of excellence in Division III women's hoops.

On February 24, 2024, Gromacki became the fastest women's basketball coach in history (NCAA Divisions I, II and III) to reach 600 wins, accomplishing the feat in 686 games.

In 24 years as a head coach, Gromacki has compiled a 621-96 (.869 win percentage). In 17 years at Amherst, he has compiled a .887 win percentage (458-58) and led his squad to back to back undefeated national championships, and had a 68-game winning streak between 2016 and 2018.

Gromacki's teams have made 10 Final Fours (9 at Amherst) -- tied for most in Div. III history.

His 61 NCAA  Tournament wins is second all-time in Division III.

Gromacki is the only Division III women's coach to lead three different institutions to their first NCAA Tournament victory in program history (St. Lawrence in 1999, Hamilton is 2007 and Amherst is 2008).

Under Gromacki, the 2017-18 D3Hoops.com National Coach of the Year, Amherst has won eight NESCAC Championships and has made nine Final Four appearances. In 2017-18, Gromacki's Mammoths broke the NCAA record for defensive scoring, allowing just 38.8 points per game.

Gromacki's 2007-08 debut season featured a 27-3 record and brought Amherst its first-ever NESCAC title and NCAA Championship appearance, but those results have become the norm with any team he coaches. He led the Purple & White to five consecutive NCAA Final Four appearances from 2009-13, notably winning the program's first national title in 2011 with a second consecutive 32-1 record. Under Gromacki's guidance, Amherst has reached the NCAA Tournament in each of his eleven seasons, while reaching at least the Sweet 16 every year to post a 45-11 overall postseason record.

Gromacki was named the D3hoops.com Northeast Coach of the Year in each of his first four seasons with Amherst before earning that distinction again following the 2016-17 and 2017-18 season. He also earned NESCAC Coach of the Year honors in 2008, 2010, 2011, 2013, 2017 and 2018. The WBCA National Coach of the Year in 2009-10, he also played an integral role in the development of the program's first-ever State Farm/WBCA NCAA Division III Players of the Year, Jaci Daigneault ’11 and Caroline Stedman '12. In the 2016-17 season, Gromacki was once again honored as the WBCA Coach of the Year, and cultivated the growth of Amherst's third WBCA Player of the Year, Ali Doswell '17.

Amherst set a league record by winning 41 consecutive conference games from 2009-13.

Prior to Amherst, Gromacki led St. Lawrence to six consecutive 20-win seasons (143-30) and an appearance in the 2002 NCAA title game. After a two-year stint as an assistant coach at Division I Temple University, he led Hamilton College to a 20-8 record during the 2006-07 season.
