Matthew Salig

Joining the Mammoth family in July 2021, Matt Salig enters his first season as an assistant coach to the Amherst swim staff.

 

A 2014 graduate of Penn State University with a Bachelor’s of Science in Biomedical Engineering, Salig also owns a Professional Master’s of Science in Biomedical Engineering with a concentration in Medical Product Engineering from the University of Pittsburgh.  Matt comes to the Pioneer Valley following a year stint as a hybrid Athlete-Coach at Mercersburg Academy and a year as a Volunteer Assistant and postgraduate athlete at Division I Penn State.

 

Most recently, as a Volunteer Assistant with Penn State, Salig worked closely with the flourishing Sprint group which set the Men’s 200 Free Relay record as well as having two of the top three Penn State 50 Freestylers of all-time.

 

A native of Downingtown, PA, Matt also brings considerable in-water athletic experience to the Pratt Pool deck.  Salig boasts 17 YMCA Swimming National Championship titles on top of qualifying for the 2012 NCAA Division I Championships and 2012 US Olympic Swimming Trials in the 200 Butterfly.  The Penn State record holder for over a decade in the 200 Fly, Salig also made an impact in the classroom at Penn State as the Robert Kimmel Academic Achievement Award winner (Highest GPA Men’s Swimming) from 2012 to 2014 and the 2014 Big Ten Postgraduate Scholarship Award recipient.  In addition to his top time at Penn State in the 200 Butterfly, Salig also owns the 4th fastest 200 IM and 6th fastest 400 IM of all-time at the university.
