Gabriele "Gabe" Grunewald- US Track and Field Former National Champ

Gabriele "Gabe" Grunewald, born June 25th, 1986, is an American profesional middle-distance runner who competes in distances from 800 meters to 5000 meters. She represented the United States at the 2014 IAAF World Indoor Championships and finished in tenth place. She was the national champion in the 3000 meters at the 2014 USA Indoor Track and Field Championships.

Born in Perham, Minnesota, Grunewald competed for the UNiversity of Minnesota where she was national runner-up in the 1500 meters at the NCAA Women's Outdoor Track and Field Championship. She has been diagnosed and treated for cancer twice, forst for adenoid cystic carcinoma of the salivary gland in 2009, then for thyroid gland cancer in 2011. In 2011 she was ranked third place nationally in the mile run both indoors and outdoors. Over 1500 m, she was fourth at the 2012 United States Olympic Trials

Grunewald was initially the 2014 USA Indoor champion, but was later disqualified an appeal from Jordan Hasay that was based on contact Grunewald has with Hasay duringt he finals. However, Hasay withdrew her appeal and Grunewald was reinstated as champion and awarded her world champion birth.

Grunwald is currently in the chase for the chance to compete at the 2016 Rio Olympics.
