Susannah Grant '84- Director, Producer, Writer

Susannah Grant is a 1984 graduate of Amherst College, an American screenwriter, director and producer as well as a member of the Board of Trustees, in which she joined in 2015. From 1994 to 1997 she worked on television, as a producer and major writer of Fox drama series Party of Five. She wrote the screen plays for Ever After, Erin Brockovich (directed by Steven Soderbergh), 28 Days and Disney’s Pocahontas. For Erin Brockovich, Grant received an Oscar nomination in 2001.

 

After Grant’s Academy Award nomination, she adapted In Her Shoe’s, Charlotte’s Web and The Soloist for the screen, as well as wrote and directed Catch and Release, starring Jenifer Garner. Following Grant’s graduation from Amherst College, she was accepted to the American Film Institute, and received the Nicholl Fellowship in screenwriting.

 

Grant created and produced CBS series A Gifted Man in 2011. She received the Valentine Davies Award in 2011 and in September 2013, Grant delivered a screenwriting lecture as a part of the BAFTA (British Academy of Film and Television) and BFI Screenwriters’ Lecture Series. In 2014, Grant created ABC drama series Members Only from the 2015-15 American television season.

 

In 2015, Grant assisted in producing a movie for HBO, Confirmation, about the Anita Hill/ Clarence Thomas hearings. She also co-wrote the 5th Wave, which will be released in 2016.

 

Grant received her B.A. in English from Amherst and also received a 1992 Nicholl Fellowship in screenwriting from the academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences. She is a longtime member of the board of Street Poets Inc., an arts-based violence-prevention program that works with children in Los Angeles public schools and juvenile detention and foster care facilities.
