A Massachusetts native, Mike Eruzione grew up playing baseball, football and ice hockey in Winthrop, MA. Eruzione attended Berwick Academy for one year after graduating from Wintrhop Senior High School and before attending Boston University.
Eruzione graduated from Boston University in 1977, where he captained the men’s ice hockey team his senior year and helped the team win four ECAC titles. During his tenure, Eruzione finished his college career as the third-leading scorer in BU hockey history. Eruzione played for Team USA in the Ice Hockey World Championship tournaments in 1975 and 1976, and played for two seasons in the International Hockey League following his time at Boston University.
Eruizione was named Captain of the 1980 Olympic hockey team where he scored the game-winning goal against the power house Soviet Union team to advance to the Gold Medal Game; an iconic moment in sports history better known as the “Miracle on Ice” victory. The U.S. hockey team went on to clinch the gold medal after defeating Finland 4 – 2.
In 1983 Eruzione was inducted into the Boston Unviersity Athletic Hall of Fame and currently serves as the Director of Special Outreach for BU Athletics.
