Dr. Waskowitz is a third generation physician in private practice in the greater Hartford Connecticut area. He is a partner with Orthopedic Associates of Hartford, one of the largest single specialty orthopedic groups in the region. His primary focus as a Board Certified orthopedic surgeon encompasses Sports Medicine and providing care for the active individual. Dr. Waskowitz’s interests include knee and shoulder injury, repair and reconstruction.
Dr. Waskowitz’s graduated from Amherst College with cum laude Honors, and then continued on to the University of Vermont College of Medicine for his medical degree. His orthopedic Residency was completed at the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center. Dr. Waskowitz then completed a Sports Medicine Fellowship at the prestigious Steadman-Hawkins Clinic in Vail Colorado. His private practice included partnership with Hampshire Orthopedics and Sports Medicine, during which time he was the primary team physician for Amherst College, Smith College, Mount Holyoke College, and Hampshire College, as well as covering UMASS with his partners. Dr. Waskowitz then became an Attending Physician at the Lahey Clinic for several years. His practice evolved into partnership with Orthopedic Associates of Hartford, returning him to his home state.
Dr. Waskowitz has served on many academic appointments, including: Instructor for the Physician Assistant training program at the Hospital of Central Connecticut; Instructor at Tufts Medical School Physical Diagnosis Program; Resident Instructor Boston University/Lahey Clinic Department of Orthopedics; and currently the Medical Director for the Athletic Training Education Program at Central Connecticut State University.
Recognition for his professional work includes: Eastern Orthopedic Association Resident/Fellow Scholar Award for outstanding research; Physician Assistant Teaching Award; and the Eastern Athletic Trainers Association most prestigious award The David G. Moyer Award (which his father had been awarded previously).
Dr. Waskowitz has provided team coverage and lead physician positions for many affiliates. In addition to his history with the Pioneer Valley, he has served in medical roles for teams including: US Disabled Ski Team; US Ski Team (Alpine); NFL Denver Broncos; Connecticut Crush Women’s Professional Football League; Connecticut Wolves Professional Soccer Club; PGA Traveler’s Championship; USA Gymnastics; ESPN Great Outdoor Games; ESPN X-Games Summer and Winter events (since 2001); Senior Team Physician Central Connecticut State University.
Dr. Waskowitz’s personal athletic interests have centered on lacrosse. He bi-captained the last undefeated lacrosse team at his high school Kingswood-Oxford and was inducted into their Sports Hall of Fame in 2010. A 4-year player/starter at Amherst, he tri-captained the team his senior year. He received the Coburn Lacrosse Award from Amherst and was selected for the East-West All-Star Lacrosse Team as a mid-fielder.
