Continentals Clip Mammoths, 1-0

CLINTON, N.Y. – The Amherst College field hockey team fell to Hamilton College, 1-0, in an away game today. The Mammoths now hold a 6-4 record on the season.

Up next for the Mammoths is an away game against Smith College this Wednesday at 6:30 p.m.

GAME HIGHLIGHTS:

* The Mammoths kicked off quarter one with a shot by Cate LaFreniere seven and a half minutes in that was just saved by Hamilton's goalie.

* In a similar fashion, Bella Kim fired a shot ten minutes into the second quarter that was blocked. As the Mammoths entered halftime, the game remained scoreless.

* The game's pace began to pick up in quarter three, with LaFreniere firing another shot that was blocked two minutes in. Hamilton responded with a shot four minutes later that Amherst subsequently blocked. Kim then got within striking distance of the goal and fired a shot that was kicked out by Hamilton's goalie.

* Unfortunately for the Mammoths, Hamilton fired three successive shots in the minutes that followed, one of which found a gap and put the first goal on the board. Kim responded with another shot in the final five seconds of the quarter, but was faced with a save from Hamilton's goalie.

* Despite entering quarter four with a one-point disadvantage, the Mammoths did not let up. Genevieve Caruso, Emily Huehn, and Kim fired a combined total of four shots, two of which were wide and two of which were saved by Hamilton's defense. With three minutes remaining, Katie Kantrovitz drew a penalty stroke that just missed scoring.

BY THE NUMBERS:

* Amherst fired 10 shots compared to Hamilton's 7.

* Amherst drew 6 penalty corners, compared to Hamilton's 4.
