#4 Mammoths open NESCAC play with 3-0 win over Conn. College

AMHERST, Mass. – The No. 6-ranked Amherst College women's soccer team continued their strong start to the 2025 campaign with a decisive 3-0 win over NESCAC rival Connecticut College on Saturday afternoon at Gooding Field. The Mammoths controlled the pace from the opening whistle, capitalizing on sustained pressure to earn their second straight victory.

With the result, Amherst improves to 2-0 on the season, while Connecticut College drops to 1-1.

GAME HIGHLIGHTS:

  • The opening 20 minutes saw Amherst set the tone with quick ball movement and a flurry of attacking chances. Jessica Lomo and Katie Pedersen both tested the Conn. College back line early, forcing Camel goalkeeper Maia Kafer into action.

  • After several near misses, the breakthrough came in the 43rd minute. First year Emma Darling slipped a clever pass into the box, where Lomo calmly slotted the ball into the lower left corner to give the Mammoths a 1-0 lead heading into halftime.

  • Amherst wasted little time extending their advantage after the break. Just seven minutes into the second half, a scramble in front of goal ended with Darling pouncing on a loose rebound from a shot from Caroline Coletti and firing home her second tally in as many games, pushing the margin to 2-0.

  • The Mammoths continued to press, and their persistence paid off again in the 74th minute. Millie McLeod secured another loose ball in the box and ripped a shot into the back of the net for her first goal of the season, sealing the 3-0 victory.

  • Conn. College created its best chances late, with Ella Gazo and Virginia Head each forcing saves, but Amherst's second-half goalkeeper Molly Davidson stood strong to preserve the shutout.
