#4 Mammoths fall to rival Williams, 1-0

AMHERST, MA. -- The #4 ranked Mammoths suffered their first loss of the season against rival Williams College, on Saturday. Williams was able to score once in the first half and kept a clean sheet for the rest of the game after 7 shots on goal by Amherst, and ending the game with a score of 1-0

The Mammoths are now 3-1-0 for the season before they head to Boston on Wednesday to face Emerson College. The Ephs improved their record to 2-1-0 for the season and the conference as they have only faced NESCAC teams so far.

GAME HIGHLIGHTS:

*  Amherst started strong with 3 shots and 2 corner kicks in the first 15 minutes of the game, 2 shots from Brooke Ingemi. Ingemi's first shot was blocked by defense and the second was saved by Williams's goalie, Huelin. Huelin had a strong game, saving 7 shots from the Mammoths and keeping a clean sheet

* After 3 shots by Williams, the Ephs were able to score on their 4th attempt, putting them in the lead on the 23rd minute. Sophomore, Stophel carried the ball to the box from the right, crossing it to the center of the box, finding first-year Carrel, who scored her first of the season and her collegiate career.

* In the second half, the Mammoths were looking to equalize, taking 10 shots in 45 minutes, but were unable to score. Darling and Ingemi each had 2 shots on goal in the second half, but Williams's Huelin kept her calm in the goal. Amherst led shots on goal by one (6-7) against the Ephs but were unable to find the back of the net.

BY THE NUMBERS:

* Amherst led shots on goal by one (6-7) against the Ephs but were unable to find the back of the net. Williams took 17 shots total, the Mammoths had 15.

Amherst had 9 corner kicks, to Williams's 7.

UP NEXT:

* The Mammoths head to Boston to play Emerson College on Wednesday night. Next weekend, they are headed to Middlebury's Dragone Field for their second NESCAC game for the season.
