#5 CMS gives #10 Amherst Heartbreak NCAA Round of 16 Exit, 4–2

AMHERST, MA – The #10 Amherst College women's tennis team saw its season come to a close on Sunday afternoon, falling 4–2 to the #5 Claremont-Mudd-Scripps (CMS) Athenas in a highly anticipated NCAA Round of 16 clash. The match, played outdoors on Amherst's home courts, featured two top-10 nationally ranked teams battling for a spot in the NCAA Elite Eight.

Amherst concludes its 2024–25 campaign with a 14–8 overall record and 8–4 mark versus NESCAC opponents, and reaching the NCAA Sweet 16. Senior Amy Cui and sophomore Lily Dounchis ended the year ranked in the top 50 nationally in singles, while the doubles teams of Friedman/Dounchis and Cui/Hart both finished in the national top 25. With a talented core returning, the Mammoths have a strong foundation to build on next season.

HIGHLIGHTS:
  • In singles play, Cui capped her Amherst career with a commanding 6–4, 6–3 win at the #2 spot.
  • First-year Tina She earned her 23rd win of the season at the #5 spot, winning 6–4, 6–2 over Bell Zhou.
  • First-year Cody Huang rallied to split sets at #6 singles, but her match was left unfinished after CMS clinched.
