Kang's Career Day Helps #13/8 Mammoths Ram Framingham State, 21-3

AMHERST, MA. – An eight-point outing from senior Sydney Kang helped No. 13/8 Amherst College women's lacrosse team put on a clinic on both sides of the ball against on Tuesday, April 15. Taking the field at home against out-of-conference opponent Framingham State University, the Mammoths took the Rams to school, scoring a whopping 15 straight-goals on the way to a 21-3 victory.  
 
With the win, the Mammoths improved to 10-3 overall while Framingham State dropped to 6-6. Next up for Amherst is a date with national-No. 2 Tufts on Saturday, April 19 in Somerville, Mass. The game against the Jumbos is slated to begin at 1 p.m. on Bello Field.

GAME HIGHLIGHTS:
 
* The first goal of the game came on the Mammoths' first offensive possession, with Clara Sosa netting 1:13 into the contest off pass from Kang: the senior looped a pass from just above X to Sosa, who drove to the net from the top of the 8-meter. The Rams tied the game at 1-1 45 seconds later, but that was the last time they would get even a sniff of the cage for the rest of the half.
 
* First, Emily Petersen netted her 11th free-position goal of the season retake the lead and then scored her second straight to give the Mammoths a 3-1 cushion halfway through the first quarter. Morgan Lebek potted next followed shortly by Bridget Finley, both off passes from Kang, before Ella Shay and Sosa finished the quarter with goals to put Amherst up 7-1 heading into the second.
 
* Amherst picked up right where they left off in the second quarter, with Petersen getting her hattrick before Finley sealed hers with two more goals to give her side a 10-1 lead. Guttmann got in on the party next, diving to the cage for her first, and Sosa became the third Mammoth to notch a hattrick with a goal in the dying seconds of the half to put her side up 12-1 at halftime.
 
* Senior Carlin Chazen got the second half going for the Mammoths, scoring her first career goal from point-blank range before Kang got on the scoreboard for the first time. Then, first-year Caroline Curtis opened her Amherst account 4:31 into the half and Chazen doubled her tally off a Kang pass to make it 16-1 in the third quarter.
 
* Framingham finally got on back on the board with 2:10 to go in that frame made it back-to-back goals right before the buzzer to put the scoreline at 16-3 entering the final period of play.
 
* Chazen made it a hattrick with her goal to open the fourth. It came off an assist from Caroline Reichert, who forced a turnover on the ride, picked up the groundball, and fed a wide-open Chazen to tally her first collegiate point. Senior Olivia Stewart kept the good times going with her first of the season with a rifle above the Rams' goaltender off a pass from classmate Chazen. Guttmann scored before Chazen returned the favor for Reichert, who got her first career goal to push Amherst to 20 goals for the first time this year.
 
* Stewart notched the first multi-goal game of her career with 3:00 to go to close the scoring and seal a lopsided 21-3 win.
 
 
BY THE NUMBERS:
 
* Kang's seven assists against the Rams is the highest single-game total by any player in the NESCAC this season. She also recorded a goal to give her eight total points, good for second in the league.
 
* 11 Amherst players put a ball in the back of the net against the Rams, playing a part in the team's first 20-goal game of the season.

* Draw specialist Elizabeth Rose again put on a clinic in the draw circle, totaling eight draw controls in a commanding effort good for the third-highest single-game output for a NESCAC player this season.
 
* Lily Samoska was not needed much, making one save on the day.
