BRUNSWICK, Me. – The Amherst College women's soccer team turned in a dominant first-half performance and held off a late Bowdoin surge to secure a 2–1 NESCAC victory on Saturday afternoon.
With the win, the Mammoths improve to 9-3-2 overall (4-3-2 NESCAC), while Bowdoin falls to 10-4-0 (5-4-0 NESCAC).
GAME HIGHLIGHTS:
• Amherst wasted no time asserting themselves, dominating possession and generating several early chances. Just over ten minutes in,
Emma Darling drove down the right side and slid a low pass across the goalmouth to
Brooke Ingemi, who cleverly backheeled the ball inside the near post to give Amherst an early 1–0 advantage.
• The Mammoths continued to dictate play throughout the first half, generating consistent pressure and forcing Bowdoin goalkeeper Charlotte Iannone into a series of saves. In the 25th minute, Amherst capitalized again when
Sofia Preuss intercepted a clearance at the top of the box and lofted a perfectly placed shot just under the crossbar to extend the lead to 2–0.
• Bowdoin applied increased pressure after halftime and cut the deficit to one with a rebound goal in the 75th minute, but Amherst's back line and goalkeeper
Lulu Fickes stood firm. The Mammoths held off several late corner kicks and blocked multiple shots to close out the victory in a gritty defensive effort.
BY THE NUMBERS:
• Amherst outshot Bowdoin 24–9 and earned nine corner kicks while allowing just two.
• Fickes recorded three saves in the win, while Iannone tallied 15 saves for Bowdoin, including 12 in the first half.
• Ingemi and Preuss scored for Amherst, with Darling credited with the assist on the opening goal.

The Mammoths return home to close out the regular season on Tuesday with a key NESCAC matchup against Trinity College on Gooding Field. Kickoff is scheduled for 5:30 p.m.
