Max Landa of the national champion men's soccer team have been named Amherst's Student-Athletes of the Month for December.
Landa recorded a shutout in the national championship game to help the Mammoths lift the NCAA Division III Championship trophy in December.
Landa made one save to earn the win in the semifinal against Middlebury, then stopped all three shots he faced over 110 minutes in the double-overtime national championship game against Connecticut College. When the final went to a penalty shootout, Landa stopped three shots to help lead the Mammoths to victory.
Hailing from La Crescenta, California, Landa graduated in December with a degree in biology. He concluded his career with a 0.70 goals-against average, a .756 save percentage and a 20-3-5 record, including 10 shutouts. Landa was honored with a spot on the NESCAC All-Sportsmanship Team this fall.
Arnold won five events at the Szkirka Memorial Championships in December, helping the Mammoths to a first-place finish atop the eight-team field at the event.
Arnold won the 100-yard freestyle and 100-yard butterfly with season-best times in both events and was part of Amherst's winning relay teams in the 200-yard freestyle relay, 400-yard freestyle relay and 400-yard medley relay, anchoring the squad in both free relays. Arnold also helped the Mammoths earn points towards their victory with a second-place finish in the 200-yard freestyle, placing behind only teammate
Megan Lee.
A geology major from Oakland, California, Arnold earned All-American honors as a first-year with a 14th-place finish in the 100-yard butterfly and as part of Amherst's 800-yard freestyle relay team that finished 12th at the NCAA Division III Championships.
