LEWISTON, Me. -- Senior Patience Kum scored two second-half goals Saturday as the 2nd-ranked Amherst College women's soccer team posted a 4-0 road victory over conference foe Bates.

The Mammoths improved to 5-0-2 on the season, 3-0-1 in NESCAC play. They are back in action Sunday for an 11 a.m. match-up at Colby College. Bates fell to 4-2-1 overall, 1-2 in conference play.

GAME HIGHLIGHTS:

* Amherst came out with pressure early and converted in the 25th minute. Senior Abby Schwartz made a great play along the end line to keep the ball in play to the left of the Bates goal, then slid a pass back to the six. Kum one-time it back to the top left of the box where Brooke Ingemi ran onto the ball and rocketed a perfectly placed shot into the upper 90 on the far right side for her first goal of the season and a 1-0 Mammoth lead.

* Just over 11 minutes later, Amherst doubled its lead. Junior Ella Johnson lined up a corner kick from the right side of the Bates goal. Her line drive into the box deflected of a Bates defender at the near right post and skidded into the goal for a 2-0 advantage.

* Amherst held that two-goal lead at the halftime break after out shooting the Bobcats 9-1 over the first 45 minutes and taking all four corner kicks in the game.

* Just over 18 minutes into the second half, Kum made it 3-0 after a pass from Kate Quigley got Kum behind the Bates defenders for a 1 v 1 opportunity. Kum would make it 4-0 just 69 seconds later off an the second Schwartz assist of the day.

BY THE NUMBERS:

* Amherst finished with a 21-2 shot advantage and a 8-1 advantage in corner kick opportunities.
