#6 Bowdoin 5-4 knock #18 Amherst out of NESCAC Tournament, 5-1

AMHERST, MA – In the NESCAC Tournament Quarterfinal, the #18 Amherst College men's tennis team hosted the #6 Bowdoin College Polar Bears on their outdoor courts on Friday morning. Bowdoin, the #4 seed in the tournament, prevailed versus Amherst, the #5 seed, with a score of 5-1. 

Today's result brings Amherst's season record to 12-6 (7-4 versus NESCAC opposition). Up next: the Mammoths now cross their fingers with the hopes that they have done enough to qualify with an at-large spot for the NCAA DIII Men's Tennis Championship. If selected during the team selection show on Monday, May 6 at 12:30 p.m. ET (streamed live on NCAA.com), Amherst will be back in action next weekend.

HIGHLIGHTS:
  • Junior Sujit Chepuri and First-year Spencer Leung won at the #2 doubles spot to give Amherst a point heading into the singles matches.
  • Bowdoin then won three singles matches at the #4 through #6 spots, including a three-set battle between First-year Rex Harrison and Bowdoin's Ethan Bradley.
  • The singles matches at the top three spots remained unfinished after the Polar Bears clinched the overall match to qualify for the NESCAC Tournament Semifinals.
