Mia Raven drove to the middle and found a checking
Emma Crotty in front of the net; she converted for the 1-0 lead. A minute later, a similar drive to net from
Sofia Guttmann crashed the defense, and her kick-out pass gave
Clara Sosa the space to go to goal herself. She put a shot past the Ephs' goalie to double the advantage.
* A stellar individual play from Guttman gave the Mammoths their next goal. After receiving the ball on the left side outside the 12-meter arc. The sophomore spun her defender to the outside, then dodged inside, giving her enough space finish high stick-side to make it 3-0. A Williams goal made it 3-1, but not for long. Crotty got her second goal of the game by finding a similar pocket in front of the goal and converting to restore the three-goal lead. Guttman scored after the ensuing draw control to make it 5-1.
* The teams then traded goals --- after a Williams goal,
Bridget Finley scored to make it 6-2. Then Raven converted to make two-straight free-position goals for the Mammoths and finish off a stellar first quarter with Amherst up 7-2.
* Raven opened the second quarter with a goal, blowing by her defender for the tally. Williams got their third and fourth goals of the day to narrow the lead to four, but
Sydney Kang got her first goal of the season with a free-position score, and Findley netted off a great transition move to make it 10-4 with seven minutes to go in the second quarter. Another Eph goal again narrowed the lead to four, and Raven responded before a second Williams goal closed the half with Amherst on top 11-6.
* The Mammoths again scored first in the second half, this time by way of Finley, who received the ball from the left and scored from point-blank range. Kang kept the ball rolling with her second of the afternoon, and Guttmann secured a hat-trick off a pass from Kang to make it 14-6. Goals from Findley, Sosa,
Kate Becker, as well as the Ephs only goal of the quarter, made it 17-7 going into the fourth.
