MIDDLEBURY, VT. – A dominant performance from Middlebury ousted the No. 13-ranked Amherst College women's lacrosse team from the NESCAC Tournament on Saturday, April 27. Taking on the current national-No. 1 on Peter Kohn Field, the Mammoths fell to the top-seeded Panthers 21-4.
With the loss, the Mammoths end their season at to 8-8, with a 4-6 mark in the NESCAC and a NESCAC quarterfinal appearance. The Panthers improved to 16-0 and will host the NESCAC Semifinals next weekend.
GAME HIGHLIGHTS:
* The Mammoths opened the postseason on a high note, scoring the game's first goal just 90 seconds into the contest.
Clara Sosa caught the ball on the outside, beat her defender with a dodge to the right, and finished low to give the eighth-seeded Mammoths a 1-0 lead.
* Middlebury fired back with two quick goals, but Amherst responded in kind to tie the game at two. This time, it was
Sofia Guttmann, who took a pass from Sosa at the end of the shot clock, faked a low pass, and finished high for her first of the game. This is where the Panthers showed their strength, however, scoring nine straight goals to end the half; the Mammoths entered the break down 13-2.
* After Middlebury opened the second half with another goal, the Mammoths got their first goal of the second half. This time, it was Sosa once again, converting a free-position opportunity to tally Amherst's third of the game.
* Once again after Mammoths' goal, Middlebury went on a run, scoring seven more goals before Amherst got on the score board once again. With a just over a minute to go in the contest,
Mia Raven took a pass along the 12-meter arc, dodged to her right, and blew by her defender before finishing top-corner for the game's final goal.
* However, just a minute later, the final whistle blew, and Amherst had dropped a heartbreaker 21-4.

* Sosa led the way offensively with two goals and an assist against the Panthers. Guttmann and Raven each recorded one.
