#15 Mammoths fall in final seconds to NESCAC foe Bowdoin, 8-7

AMHERST, Mass. -- Bowdoin College's Emelia Krakora scored with six seconds remaining Saturday to send the 15th-ranked Amherst College women's lacrosse team to a 8-7 loss on Pratt Field at Lehrman Stadium. 

The loss sent Amherst to a 2-4 overall record, and 1-3 in conference play. Bowdoin improved to 3-3 overall, 1-3 in the NESCAC. Amherst will host Westfield State University at 6 p.m. Tuesday for a non-conference match-up. 

GAME HIGHLIGHTS:

* There was only one multiple-goal lead for either team in the game, that coming with 2:47 left in the first quarter when Bowdoin's Maddie Mrva gave the visitors a 3-1 lead. Amherst fought back to tie the game at 3-all by halftime, thanks to a Clara Sosa goal with nine second left in the first quarter and a Bridget Finley goal off a pass from Sosa -- the only goal scored by either team in the second quarter. 

* The final two quarters were a back-and-forth affair. Mammoth first-year Mia Raven scored back-to-back goals in a two-minute span to give Amherst a 5-4 lead with 7:03 remaining in the third stanza. Bowdoin equaled the score at 6-all by the end of the third quarter.

* Amherst regained the lead at 6-5 with 10:27 left in the fourth quarter as Bridget Finley scored off a pass from Raven, but Bowdoin got a goal from Krakora to tie the game again. 

*The Mammoths took their final lead at 7-6 with 4:03 left when Finley and Raven teamed up once again. 

* However, the Polar would score with 2:42 remaining to tie the game and then win it with six seconds on the clock. 

BY THE NUMBERS:

* Bowdoin had slight edges in shots (28-16) and groundballs (17-16) while Amherst held a slight edge in draw controls (10--9).

* Amherst goalkeeper Jessye Salmon made 10 saves in the loss. 

* Salmon led the team with three groundballs, while Emma Crotty had two. Mia Raven led the team with 6 draw controls and 2 caused turnovers.
