Mammoths roll to 88-47 win over John Jay

NEW YORK, NY–-The Amherst College Women's Basketball team gained possession of the lead one minute and 37 seconds into the first quarter and never relinquished it, defeating John Jay College by a large margin, 88-47
 
The Mammoths (4-1) will face Wesleyan University in a home game at the LeFrak Gymnasium next Monday at 7 p.m. 
 
GAME HIGHLIGHTS:
 
* Annie McCarthy scored the Mammoths' first points on a three-pointer with eight minutes and 55 seconds remaining on the clock for the first quarter. Kori Barach followed suit scoring a three-pointer assisted by Sylvia Liddle 32 seconds later. Barach had an impressive steal that she turned into a driving layup at six minutes and 46 seconds. Barach, McCarthy, and Liddle all scored three-pointers in the final six and a half minutes of the first quarter.
 
* The Mammoths entered half time with a massive thirty point lead over the Bloodhounds. The Mammoths scored 23 points in the second quarter. Barach and Anna Tranum scored three-pointers 29 seconds apart beginning at nine minutes and 21 seconds. Tranum had a defensive rebound at seven minutes and 21 seconds that she passed to Maya Cwalina. Cwalina then assisted Elizabeth Cain to score an impressive hook shot 10 seconds later. Barach led the mammoths in terms of points in quarter two, scoring eight points for the Mammoths.
 
* Brielle Renwick, Liddle, Cwalina, Barach, Cain, and McCarthy all contributed to the scoring scene in the third quarter, racking up 23 points for the Mammoths. Nine seconds into the quarter, Liddle gained possession of the ball and scored a three-pointer. Cwalina scored on a hook shot with six minutes and 11 seconds on the clock following an assist from Liddle. In the final 20 seconds, McCarthy scored on both of her free throw attempts.
 
* The Mammoths continued to increase their lead over John Jay, scoring nine points in the final five minutes of the fourth quarter. Renwick scored on jumper with seven minutes and 17 seconds on the clock and again on both of her free throw attempts less that two minutes later.
 
BY THE NUMBERS:
 
* The Mammoths scored 10 three-pointers and 16 free throws and held the lead for the entire game once the first points were on the board.
 
* Amherst earned 44 rebounds, 32 of which were defensive rebounds.
