Mammoths roll to 75-65 win over Albertus Magnus

AMHERST, Mass..-- The Amherst College Women's Basketball team retook the lead from Albertus Magnus with eight minutes and twenty-nine seconds remaining in the second quarter Tuesday night and never relinquished it, defeating the visiting Falcons 75-65 on Hixon Court in the LeFrak Gymnasium. 
 
The Mammoths (3-0) will face Springfield College in a home game back in LeFrak Saturday at 1 p.m.

GAME HIGHLIGHTS:

* The Mammoths trailed the Falcons for the first 2:08 of the the game until Kori Barach scored a three-pointer to tie the game 5-all.. With four minutes and 58 seconds remaining in quarter one, the Falcons scored a three-
pointer to retake the lead, 12 to 9.

* Maya Cwalina secured a defensive rebound and assisted Annie McCarthy to a jumper that retook the lead for Amherst eight minutes and 29 seconds into the second quarter. Over the next 3:08, the Mammoths scored eight points, without surrendering a single point to the Falcons

* Amherst continued to fight off Albertus Mangus' offense in the third quarter, with Laura Mendell, Sylvia Liddle, Cwalina, and Brielle Renwick scoring a combined six layups to retain the lead.

* The Mammoths made use of free throws in the final quarter to secure victory over the Falcons. With 46 seconds remaining on the clock, McCarthy scored on both of her free throw attempts. Sylvia Liddle followed suit, scoring on both of her attempts in the final 25 seconds of the game.

BY THE NUMBERS:

* Mendell, Liddle, McCarthy, and Cwalina each scored in the double-digits, scoring 18, 12, 11, and 10 points, respectively

* The Mammoths' ended the game with a 49.2% success rate on field goals compared to Albertus Mangus' 33.3%
