Game Recap: Women's Ice Hockey |

#2 Mammoths fall short at Trinity, 4-1

AMHERST, MA – Despite outshooting their opponent 29-19, the second-ranked Amherst College women's hockey fell to NESCAC rival Trinity College, 2-0, at Williams Rink on Saturday night. 

The Bantams improve to 6-3-1 with the win, and the Mammoths fall to 8-1-1. Amherst faces Trinity again tomorrow, Sunday, for a 4 p.m. puck drop. 

GAME HIGHLIGHTS: 

* The Mammoths started the game off hot with a shot from Alyssa Xu off a pass from Rylee Glennon 27 seconds into the game. The puck went past Bantam goalkeeper Hannah Leclair but was waived off due to a kicking the puck call.

* With 6:02 left, Martina Exnerova sent a back pass to Ava Gosnell, who one-timed it from far right, putting the puck past Amherst goalie Natalie Stott scoring the game's first goal.

* With 13:17 left in the second period the Bantams scored their second goal of the game. Following a scrum in front of the net Exernova netted the puck, assisted by Jenny Guider.

* With 48 seconds left, on an Amherst power play both Gretchen Dann and Jayna Park took shots from in front of the goal, Park shooting wide and Dann stopped by Leclair. 

* Only 2:55 into the third period Guider skated down the right side of the ice, shooting from far right and scoring the Bantam's third goal. 

* Only 20 seconds later Marta Mazzocchi passed the puck from the right of Amherst's goals finding Emma Robertson who found the back of the net from the left side of the net. 

* With 14:44 left Maeve Reynolds, from bottom left, passed to Clare O'Connor, who shot from top right past Leclair, putting the Mammoths on the scoreboard.

BY THE NUMBERS:

* The Bantams outshot the Mammoths 17-13 in the first period, and the Mammoths outshot the Bantams 27-8 in the second and 22-14 in the third.

* The Mammoths won 30 of the 55 face-offs, with Reynolds winning 13.

* The Bantams were whistled for 6 penalties, the Mammoths' 3. 

* The Mammoths were 0-5 for power plays, and the Bantams were 0-2.

* Leclair made 28 saves and Stott made 15 saves.
